Mohawk Valley Keeper’s current project is protecting the Valley from Dominion Transmission Inc.
Dominion’s “New Market Project,” proposed to transport more gas (112,000 dekatherms of gas per day) through its 50 year old pipeline. A 7410 hp turbine compressor presently exists at Brookmans Corner, but Dominion wants to add 11,133 hp with one additional turbine and two reciprocating compressors for a total of 18,543 hp, along with coolers and M&R equipment. Dominion also plans to build two new 11,000 hp compressor stations in Horseheads and Georgetown with other modifications at the existing stations in Dryden, Utica, and West Schenectady. The stated purpose of this project is to serve National Grid subsidiaries. However, with planned reversal of the Iroquois pipeline called the SONO (South to North Project) which connects to Dominion’s network at Brookmans Corner, much of this gas could be exported to Canada.
Status: In operation. Currently proposed for expansion.
